Still getting better. I looked at my appointments on MyHealthEvet and the two on 28JUN16 have been labeled as cancelled, although I was physically there for 4 hours. LOL

Forgot to mention: The VA contacted my private insurance, United Healthcare, and asked them to pay for my visits!! This place just keeps getting better and better.

1 month update:

I called the "Veteran's Experience Officers" number from the website. I left two messages, 28JUN16, 1039 and 29JUN16 0755.

My messages were not returned. I tried again on 29JUN16 at 1608 and made contact. I spoke to Andrea Hill. I told her what had happened.

Her advice, "Don't just sit there after your appointment time has passed by, say something." Anyone with PTSD knows that the last thing we want to do is speak up and draw attention to ourselves. She stated further that I should utilize the internet, not her office." She also stated that she felt like I "was holding back information". I guess the situation was so bad, even she could not believe it happened. Anyway, she told me she could not fill my prescription, nor get me an appointment, and the Veteran's Experience" office had no medical personnel.

So, exactly why are they there if all they can do is listen? Looks like they have at least three of them there judging by the webpage. Waste of money.

On 30JUN16 at 0815, I was contacted by "Wes".

He was energetic and a great listener and apologized for the events. He was a business manager. I am not sure what he did, but my prescription was refilled, and I have an appointment next week at the VA center in Winchester, VA. However, you generally make appointments when you can actually show up to them.

No phone contact, just a letter in the mail telling me I have an appointment. Of course if they had asked, they would know that I will not be here for the appointment next week. I guess I am supposed to cancel my vacation I have had planned for a year and make the appointment. So I will miss that one, the "Myhealthevet" status will depict me as a no-show, my meds will run out, and I get to do the entire thing again next month.

And they wonder why so many of us give up hope. I'll post again next month.

No problem providing my name. I am Phil Melton.

I had an appointment at the "No-Hope" Mental Health Center at the Martinsburg VA Hospital yesterday with a new doctor. My old doctor retired, thank God. During my previous visit, he asked how I was, never looked me in the eye, and typed on his computer the entire time. After 30 minutes of him asking questions, looking at the wall above me, then typing for 2 or 3 minutes after I answered his questions, I felt uneasy and was just ready to get out of there.

Yesterday, I showed up early around 1145, checked in, and was told to go get lunch and return. My appointment was at 1300, check in at 1245. I returned to the clinic around 1240 but could not get back to the locked waiting area or check in because only one person was working the desk (4 desks, one operational) and several veterans were waiting, I gave up and went to the Kiosk by the entranceway, swiped my card, went to the front of the line and asked to be let in the door.

I sat down in the waiting room with 4 other veterans and I was never acknowledged, never asked why I was there, just passed by.

At 1515, I asked someone why I was never seen. She said I was a no-show even though I checked in physically once, and on the Kiosk a second time.

Then a person came out and stated that she had called me several times. I do not doubt that she called me at 1240 and 1245, but I was in the lobby attempting to be let through the door.

Common sense and a little bit of professionalism should have prompted someone to ask why I sat in the room and was never called on. There were only 4 or 5 people in there with me at any one time. I finally was met by a person who stated she would remedy the situation. Her remedy was to bring me back up to the front desk and offer me an appointment Friday.

That was it, I guess in VA land, the problem was solved. I drive up from Gore, VA and take time off of work to make these appointments, so asking for more time off was not an option. I just walked away in tears. I am on a daily medication called Viibryd for PTSD.

The VA hospital will not fill anymore of my prescriptions because they say I was a no-show for my appointment. I have emailed and called the Martinsburg Veterans Experience Officers and left a message. I also attempted to call the mental health clinic near my home in Winchester, VA, but the call goes straight back to the Hope Mental Health center in Martinsburg. When the Hope representative answered the call, he stated he cannot make an appointment for the clinic in Winchester, and I needed to call them directly.

But when I dial the number on the webpage, it sends me straight to the Martinsburg clinic, so I am trapped now with no hope of being treated or having my meds refilled. I do not know if you can make my voice heard but I needed to vent and tell someone. I am a 20-year service veteran and this has aggravated my PTSD and actually made it worse.

Thank you for your time. Phil

Recommendation:

1. Create an interactive link between your kiosk and the one person you have working the front desk.

2. When people show up early, allow them through the door to wait. Don't make them come back.

3. If you see someone sitting in the waiting room for 2 hours, ask them why they are there.

Idiots.
